John H. Matthews serves as a Courtesy Faculty in the Water Resources Graduate Program at Oregon State University (OSU), affiliated with the Department of Water Resources Policy and Management. He is also the Coordinator for the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation and a Senior Water Fellow at Colorado State University. His work focuses on integrating climate change adaptation into sustainable water management, infrastructure resilience, and ecological-engineering approaches.
Education:

- Postdoctoral Research in Conservation Biology, US Geological Survey
- Bachelor’s in Cultural Anthropology
Research Focus: Climate adaptation strategies for water infrastructure, environmental flows, and long-term sustainable planning in regions like the North American Great Basin. He has contributed to interdisciplinary frameworks merging ecological and engineering practices.

Professional Experience: Former director of WWF’s freshwater climate adaptation program and Conservation International’s freshwater climate initiatives. Prior career included 12 years in book publishing.
