John M. Doyle is the Henry B. Silsbee Professor of Physics at Harvard University and Co-Director of the Quantum Science and Engineering Initiative. He leads the Doyle Research Group, part of the Harvard-MIT Center for Ultracold Atoms. His work focuses on ultracold molecules for quantum science, precision measurement, and particle physics. He holds a PhD from MIT and has pioneered techniques like cryogenic buffer-gas cooling and magneto-optical trapping of molecules.
Research interests include laser cooling of polyatomic molecules, electron electric dipole moment (eEDM) searches (via ACME collaboration), quantum simulation with trapped molecules, and applications in dark matter detection. He has supervised over 30 PhD students and is a Humboldt, Fulbright, and APS Fellow. Current projects involve optical tweezer arrays for molecule control and Raman sideband cooling.
Key achievements include first trapping of ultracold polyatomic molecules (CaOH), entangling molecules in optical tweezers, and setting record limits on the electron EDM. His group also develops advanced detection systems for precision experiments.
