Dr. John Kalimilo Malagila is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Accounting and Associate Director of Education for the Accounting Group at Essex Business School, University of Essex. He joined the university in 2022, previously holding positions at the University of Bradford and University of Southampton. With over 25 years of international teaching experience, he specializes in academic and professional courses in accounting, auditing, taxation, and research methodologies.
His educational background includes a PhD in Business Studies and Management from the University of Southampton, an MBA and B.Com from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He holds professional certifications as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and CPA (Tanzania).
Malagila's research focuses on:
- Corporate sustainability frameworks including governance, environmental reporting, and disclosure practices
- Auditing accountability mechanisms and market-based accounting research
- Financial reporting transparency in emerging economies
