John James Haggerty is a Senior Lecturer (Phased Retirement) at the ILR School, Cornell University, within the Department of Human Resource Studies. He holds a PhD in Human Resources Studies (Cornell ILR), MBA from Case Western Reserve University, and BS from Cornell ILR. With a 27-year career at General Electric as VP of HR and global HR leadership roles, his expertise spans HR functional excellence, technology applications, and HR system efficacy.
Teaching focuses on experiential learning in international strategic HRM, including the 'Field Studies in Strategic Human Resources' course taking students abroad. Research collaborations with Patrick M. Wright include Management & Organization Review and Sage Handbook contributions on HR systems.
Recipient of the 2021 Robert N. Stern Award for Teaching and Mentoring. Serves as faculty advisor for Cornell Club Lacrosse Team, SHRM, Sigma Pi Mu Chapter, and College Mentors for Kids. His work bridges academic research with practical HR management challenges in global manufacturing/service sectors.
