Dr. John Hunter is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Chapman University's Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. His research program explores the positive potential of digital technology to enhance well-being through stress reduction, improved health outcomes, and augmented social relationships. He teaches Critical Thinking, Health Psychology, and Research Methods in Behavioral Science with an emphasis on real-world applications.
- Education: PhD in Psychological Science from UC Irvine, Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Irvine School of Medicine, BA in Psychology and History from UCLA.
His research focuses on digital well-being, examining how technologies can be designed to promote health and happiness. Key publications include analyses of affect variability's physiological impacts, critiques of automated facial expression coding, and mobile health interventions for pediatric pain management. He also serves as Director of the Center for Undergraduate Excellence, where he strengthens research ecosystems and guides students in fellowship applications.
