John Hines is a Professor of Voice at the University of Northern Iowa's School of Music, where he has served since 2006. He teaches Applied Voice, Vocal Diction, and Song Literature, specializing in Russian vocal repertoire. A renowned performer, he has appeared at Carnegie Hall and the State Academic Capella in Saint Petersburg, earning recognition as 'The American Chaliapin.' His performance repertoire spans over 75 symphonic, oratorio, and operatic works.
Dr. Hines holds a D.M.A. from Shenandoah University Conservatory of Music and has advanced training from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and the American Institute of Music Studies in Austria. He has previously taught at Cornerstone, Taylor, Indiana Wesleyan, Ball State, and Pittsburg State Universities.
His professional engagements include international adjudication (Boris T. Shtokolov Competition), master classes, and collaborations with leading theaters like the Mariinsky and Bolshoi. His students pursue careers in vocal music education, graduate studies, and international performance programs.
