John Harding is a Professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. His research focuses on emerging and re-emerging diseases of pigs, including co-discovery of porcine circovirus type 2 and studies on Brachyspira hampsonii colitis and PRRS (porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome). He holds a DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College (1988), an MSc from the University of Minnesota (1997), and diplomate status from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in Swine Health Management (2008).
His research explores mechanisms of severe PRRS reproductive impacts, prenatal immunological programming, and disease resilience in swine. Notable achievements include the 2010 Pfizer Animal Health Award for Research Excellence. Collaborative work spans genomic analysis, epidemiology, and translational medicine, addressing challenges in swine health and disease management.
