John H. Grove is a Professor of Agronomy/Plant and Soil Sciences at the University of Kentucky's Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, based at the UK Research and Education Center in Princeton, KY. He has been with the institution since 1981, progressing through the academic ranks from Assistant to Associate to full Professor.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Agronomy from University of Georgia (1980)
- M.S. in Soil Chemistry from Michigan State University (1977)
- B.S. in Physical Sciences/Chemistry from Michigan State University (1975)
Professor Grove's research focuses on soil science with particular emphasis on soil fertility, soil management, and plant nutrition in plant production systems. His work bridges fundamental soil science principles with practical agricultural applications, addressing critical issues in sustainable crop production and nutrient management. His expertise encompasses the complex interactions between soil properties, nutrient cycling, and plant growth requirements.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on precision agriculture techniques, soil nutrient management, and the impacts of agricultural practices on soil structure and ecosystem services. His research spans from field-level applications to sophisticated spatial analysis techniques for understanding soil variability.
Professional Recognition:
- University of Kentucky Alumni Association 2013 Great Teacher Award
Professor Grove teaches Soil Nutrient Management (NRE/PLS 470G) and Advanced Soil Fertility (PLS 712), courses that integrate soil chemistry, plant physiology, and modern agricultural practices to address nutrient management challenges in contemporary farming systems. His teaching emphasizes both theoretical foundations and practical application of soil science principles.
