John Grant is a Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University's Sheffield Business School within the College of Business, Technology and Engineering. He serves as an academic adviser on the SCC Green City Partnership Board, contributing to Sheffield's goal of achieving 'Zero Carbon by 2030.' His roles include committee membership with the South Yorkshire Climate Alliance (SCA), Environmental Hub, and Housing Quality Network (HQN). Grant holds a BA (Hons), MSc, and MPhil in relevant disciplines. His research focuses on renewable energy systems, sustainable building design, climate resilience strategies, and carbon footprint reduction. He actively engages in media through his role as Director of The ARC (Adaptation & Resilience Committee) and regularly appears on BBC and ITV discussing environmental issues.
He teaches courses in sustainability, climate change, low-carbon construction, and urban food production. Notable research projects include 'Resilient Sheffield: A Strategy for Facing Climate Change' (2010-present), 'Aquaponics in Autonomous Domestic Dwellings' (2016-present), and the 'SUCCESS' initiative for China's sustainable energy strategy (2003-2005). Grant also directs the Solar Active charity, promoting renewable energy education and chairs conferences on climate change impacts in social housing. His work bridges academia, policy-making, and public engagement to address global sustainability challenges.
