John Goudreau, DO PhD, is a Professor and Associate Dean of Clinical & Translational Science at Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, with a focus on neurology and neurodegenerative disorders. His research primarily centers on Parkinson's disease, dopamine metabolism, and translational therapies. Key areas of investigation include genetic factors influencing disease progression, clinical trials of neuroprotective agents, and mechanisms underlying motor and cognitive impairments in PD patients.
Dr. Goudreau’s work integrates basic science and clinical research, with a strong emphasis on translating findings into clinical practice. His studies often involve preclinical models (e.g., rodent and equine systems) to explore dopamine pathways and neuroprotective strategies. He has led or contributed to pivotal trials such as the SURE-PD series evaluating urate elevation and the BouNDless trial for levodopa-carbidopa infusion therapy.
His research also addresses practical interventions for PD symptoms, including bracing techniques for postural instability and novel drug delivery systems. Notably, he has explored the role of genetic polymorphisms (e.g., BDNF, dopamine receptor variants) in tailoring treatment outcomes, advancing the field of personalized medicine in neurology.
Dr. Goudreau’s contributions span academic leadership, clinical innovation, and mentorship within the College of Osteopathic Medicine. His laboratory and collaborations focus on advancing our understanding of PD pathophysiology and developing evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
