John Gonzales

John Gonzales is a Lecturer in the Department of Journalism & Public Relations at California State University Long Beach's College of Liberal Arts. With 20 years of experience in journalism spanning local, national, and international reporting, he has held roles as a senior writer and senior fellow at the Center for Health Journalism at USC Annenberg, southern regional correspondent for the Associated Press, Hispanic affairs reporter at Newsday, and general assignment trainee at the Los Angeles Times.

• Graduated with honors from University of Southern California (USC) with a dual major in journalism and political science

His research and professional work focuses on health journalism, social justice reporting, international affairs, and political communication. Gonzales has received prestigious awards from organizations including the Association of Health Care Journalists, National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute. He also participated in The Freedom Forum's North American Journalist Exchange fellowship in 2001, reporting from Mexico City and Hidalgo.
