John Godfrey is a Professor in the Department of Music at University College Cork (UCC), where he has been since 1992. He is a specialist in contemporary art music, focusing on composition, performance, and experimental music. As founder and director of Quiet Music Ensemble, he explores improvised and experimental soundscapes. His research interests include spectral soundscapes, music technology, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Godfrey has been a key member of renowned ensembles like Icebreaker and Crash Ensemble, performing globally. He teaches composition, performance, and music technology, supervising PhD students in composition and digital arts. His work has been broadcast internationally and released on labels like Cantaloupe and Decca Argo.
