Rev. Dr. John Genter is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Theology, Philosophy, and Biblical Languages at Concordia University Nebraska, where he has been a faculty member since 2021. He teaches Greek I-IV and a range of theology and Bible courses, bringing ancient Scripture to life through hands-on engagement with manuscript facsimiles.
His research focuses on New Testament studies, Second Temple Judaism, and ancient Greek literature, with a strong emphasis on Koine Greek philology and biblical translation. He has contributed to the Baylor Handbook on the Greek New Testament series and the NRSV-UE translation of Matthew. His scholarly work bridges ancient textual analysis with theological education.
Dr. Genter was awarded the 2025 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, recognizing his dedication to undergraduate instruction and student mentorship. He is also actively involved in the Seward, NE community, serving as coordinating chaplain and board member for Trinity Academy, a classical Lutheran high school.
