John Garry is a Professor of Political Behaviour at Queen's University Belfast, leading The Democracy Unit since 2019. He focuses on electoral and deliberative democracy, with notable work on Northern Ireland's political dynamics and Brexit's impact. His research includes studies on voting behavior, public opinion, and deliberative mini-publics. He has secured major grants from the Economic and Social Research Council, including analyses of the 2016 Northern Ireland Assembly Election and post-Brexit border deliberations. His recent publications explore AI's role in research prioritization, gender equity in global health, and democratic processes in divided societies.
He has been Principal Investigator on 8 projects since 2011, including current leadership in Northern Ireland Administrative Data Research Centre Wave 4 and Quantitative Methods at Queen's (QMQ). Collaborations span UK and international institutions, with frequent media engagement via BBC, Sky News, and peer-reviewed outlets like Political Science & Politics and Psychological Medicine.
