John Gaddis is the Robert A. Lovett Professor of Military and Naval History at Yale University. He specializes in Cold War history, historical methodology, biography, and grand strategy. His teaching includes courses on the Cold War, strategic analysis, and historiography.
Research interests focus on interpreting historical processes, evaluating strategic choices in international conflicts, and analyzing biographical narratives of key figures. Current work involves a microhistory of his Texas hometown.
Recipient of the National Humanities Medal and 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Biography for George F. Kennan: An American Life. Awards also include Yale teaching excellence recognitions.
Publications include seminal works like The Cold War: A New History and On Grand Strategy, which explore geopolitical dynamics and long-term strategic thinking.
