John R. Freeman is the Paul W. Frenzel Professor of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota's Department of Political Science. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has held visiting positions at the University of Michigan. Freeman consults with international businesses, banks, law firms, and the armed services. His research focuses on political economy, international relations, and methodological innovations, including geo-statistical analyses of human rights data and counterinsurgency strategies. His work has been supported by the NSF, Bank Austria Foundation, and Austrian Ministry of Science.
Education: Ph.D. in Political Science, University of Minnesota (1978).
Research Interests: Freeman's scholarship bridges theory and method. He examines global political economies, evaluates policy impacts via quantitative frameworks, and critiques data reliability in human rights reporting. Recent projects employ geo-statistical tools to assess human rights violations and counterinsurgency dynamics.
