Professor John Ferry chairs the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Johns Hopkins University, specializing in metamorphic petrology. His research examines mineral reactions and geochemical processes during rock deformation and metamorphism.
With over 30 years at Johns Hopkins, Professor Ferry served as department chair from 1995-1998. He earned his PhD in Geological Sciences from Harvard University in 1975.
His laboratory investigates fluid-rock interactions and metamorphic processes using geochemical analysis and field studies. Professor Ferry mentors graduate students in petrology and maintains research collaborations with international geoscience institutions.
