John F. Stobaugh is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. He holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Kansas (1982), an M.S. from the University of Oklahoma (1977), and a B.S. from the University of Oklahoma (1974). His research focuses on liquid phase separation techniques, including capillary electrochromatography, capillary liquid chromatography, and capillary electrophoresis, applied to drug and peptide analysis in biological matrices. He leads the development of methodologies for in vivo anticancer agent analysis and high-efficiency bio-macromolecule separations. Notably, he pioneered the XUPLC system for ultra-high pressure chromatography and developed fluorogenic derivatization reagents like naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde and benzylamine analogs for peptide/protein analysis. He also serves as Interim Director of the Higuchi Biosciences Center, advancing interdisciplinary research in pharmaceutical sciences.
His work integrates advanced chromatographic techniques with biochemical applications, addressing challenges in drug metabolism, protein stability, and nitrotyrosine quantification. Current projects include optimizing XUPLC for protein degradation studies and refining boronate affinity strategies for oxidized protein analysis. His contributions bridge analytical chemistry with clinical and pharmaceutical applications, enhancing drug development and diagnostic methodologies.
