John F Moran is a Clinical Professor in the Department of French Literature, Thought and Culture at New York University (NYU), where he also serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies and Language Program Director. He previously directed NYU Paris for 15 months and has held roles in NYU’s Residential Life and Housing Services for over a decade. His research focuses on world language pedagogy, medieval French literature, and the history of the French language.
- Education: Ph.D. and B.A. in French and Linguistics from Tulane University; MS in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University
- Administrative Roles: Chief Reader for AP French Language & Culture Exam, former CLEP French Test Development Committee Chair
His publications span medieval textual analysis, postcolonial literature, and linguistic studies, with notable works on Old French fabliaux and contemporary Francophone narratives. Moran’s pedagogical innovations emphasize assessment methodologies and language program development, complemented by his extensive residential faculty experience fostering student engagement.
