John Eriksson

John Eriksson is a Professor at the Åbo Akademi University, affiliated with the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering and the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. His research focuses on cancer biology, cellular mechanobiology, and biomedical applications of nanotechnology, with significant contributions to understanding tumor microenvironment dynamics and intermediate filament functions.

His recent work includes studies on

• biomaterial interactions with cervical cancer cells,
• therapeutic targeting of pancreatic cancer-associated fibroblasts,
• structural roles of intermediate filaments in cellular adaptation,
• and immunomodulatory signaling in melanoma.

Scientific awards include the ÅAU Chancellor's Prize for best publication (2013) for research on mesoporous silica nanoparticles in drug delivery. He has supervised 5 formal research projects and leads the CellMech Center of Excellence (2019-2024), focusing on cellular mechanostasis.
