John Elefteriades

Dr. John Elefteriades is the William W.L. Glenn Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Yale School of Medicine and former Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery. His academic appointments span roles in the Department of Surgery and the Yale Center for Thoracic Aortic Disease. He completed his MD and residency at Yale, with clinical expertise in complex cardiac and thoracic surgeries, particularly aortic aneurysm treatment and heart transplantation.

• Residency and Chief Residency in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital (1976–1983)

Research Interests:

Dr. Elefteriades focuses on genetic and biomechanical mechanisms of thoracic aortic aneurysms, surgical innovations for aortic disease, and artificial heart technologies. His work includes developing the Aortic Institute’s RNA Signature blood test and advancing endovascular repair techniques. He collaborates with bioengineers to model hemodynamic factors in aortic dissection progression.

Publications: Over 400 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing aortic pathology, surgical outcomes, and translational research. Recent work addresses hemodynamic parameters in type B dissections and genetic commonalities across arterial diseases.
