John Daigle is a Professor of Forest Recreation Management at the University of Maine’s School of Forest Resources. His research focuses on outdoor recreation management, visitor experience studies, and climate change impacts on recreation activities. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts (1997), M.S. from Colorado State University (1990), and B.S. from the University of Maine (1986).
Daigle’s work examines benefits of outdoor activities like hunting and wildlife viewing, visitor experience in Maine’s parks (e.g., St. Croix International Waterway, Allagash Wilderness Waterway), and alternative transportation systems in national parks. He also explores social and cultural impacts of climate change on recreationists and private land access issues in the northeastern U.S. Before joining UMaine in 1998, he worked with the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service.
Key projects include transportation needs for national parks, monitoring vegetation impacts at Acadia National Park, and tribal perspectives on forest conservation. His research bridges environmental science, social behavior, and policy, addressing challenges in sustainable recreation and resource management.
