John C. Nardo is a Professor of Mathematics and Mathematics Program Coordinator at Oglethorpe University. He holds the endowed Manning M. Pattillo, Jr., Professorship of the Liberal Arts. His research focuses on knot theory, probability, statistics, topology, and mathematical economics. In 2023, he received the prestigious Vulcan Materials Company Award for Teaching Excellence and Leadership, recognizing his contributions to academia.
Dr. Nardo’s teaching and research interests span interdisciplinary areas, integrating advanced mathematical concepts with practical applications. His academic journey includes a B.A. from Wake Forest University and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Emory University. Beyond academia, he is an avid enthusiast of Great White Sharks, having undertaken cage-diving expeditions in South Africa and Guadalupe Island, documenting his experiences through videos and photos.
He maintains active involvement in promoting Oglethorpe’s Mathematics and Computer Science programs, highlighted on their respective departmental websites. His dedication to education and passion for marine biology reflect a commitment to both scholarly rigor and adventurous curiosity.
