John C. Duchi

John Duchi is an Associate Professor of Statistics and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, with a courtesy appointment in Computer Science and affiliation with Data Science. His work spans statistical learning, optimization, information theory, and computation, developing algorithms with practical applications including systems used at Google.

Dr. Duchi's research centers on discovering statistical learning procedures that optimally balance real-world constraints—computation, communication, and privacy—while maintaining statistical efficiency. His work specifically addresses inference under privacy constraints, distributed estimation with limited communication budgets, and stochastic approximation. He develops both theoretical frameworks and practical algorithms for modern machine learning challenges.
