John Brocato is a Senior Lecturer in Technical Communications at the University of Georgia College of Engineering. He joined the institution in 2019 after founding and directing the Shackouls Technical Communications Program at Mississippi State University, which focused on enhancing engineering students' writing and speaking skills. Brocato holds a Master’s degree in English from Mississippi State University.
His research interests center on improving communication skills in engineering education, including presentation techniques, ethics pedagogy, and innovative teaching methods like theater-based exercises and case studies. He was recognized as a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education in 2018.
Brocato’s publications span strategies for teaching technical communication, ethics through case studies, and creative pedagogical approaches such as using charades to improve presentation skills. His work emphasizes bridging theoretical knowledge with practical communication competencies critical for engineering professionals.
