معرفی
John Borgonovo is a Senior Lecturer in the School of History at University College Cork (UCC), where he also serves as Head of Third Year and Coordinator of the MA in History. He was appointed University Historian at UCC in 2022, succeeding Professor John A. Murphy, and has played a central role in public history initiatives, including as UCC's Decade of Centenaries Programme Coordinator from 2016 to 2017.
His research interests include Irish Revolution (1916–1923), First World War, maritime history, gender, class, and transnational perspectives on Irish history. He employs a 'history from below' approach, focusing on local experiences in Cork as a lens for understanding national events. His scholarship engages with major debates such as the Kilmichael Ambush, civilian informers, and the Bandon Valley killings.
Borgonovo’s publications reveal a strong focus on revolutionary governance, intelligence operations, ex-servicemen, and cultural expressions of politics, such as brass bands and commemorations. His recent articles span topics like British Army intelligence, civil administration during the Civil War, and the role of women in revolutionary movements. These works reflect a deep engagement with both military and social dimensions of conflict.

He actively supervises postgraduate students and has advised numerous MA and PhD candidates on topics related to Irish revolutionary history, terrorism, and peace processes. He is also deeply involved in public outreach, regularly contributing to documentaries, radio programs, and public lectures. He co-organized the Maritime History Lunchtime Lecture Series and contributes to community archaeology projects such as Landscapes of Revolution.
