John Benitz is a Professor of Theatre at Chapman University's College of Performing Arts, specializing in directing, screen acting, and the Ivana Chubbuck acting technique. He holds a BFA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA from Brandeis University. His work bridges theatre and film, with a focus on war narratives and historical preservation.

His recent projects include the 2024 Woodstock Film Festival-premiered documentary Behind the Lines, and War Unfolding, exploring Andrew Carroll's global war letters collection. Benitz has secured over $30,000 in NEA and Cal Humanities grants.
