His educational philosophy centers on students creating meaningful short films through strong creative vision and technical execution.
Kost's creative works demonstrate consistent quality and international recognition, with award-winning short films screened at festivals and distributed on major networks including Sundance, Bravo, IFC, Showtime, and the Sci-Fi Channel. His publications include two editions of The Book of Sides series and the documentary Ivanna Chubbuck: The Power of the Actor (2019), where he served as cinematographer, co-producer, and editor.
Professor Kost actively involves Chapman students in his creative projects, with current and former students contributing to book production, film restoration (notably the 20-year-old film Sid and Mel), and instructional materials like Safety On Set. His work demonstrates a strong commitment to practical, hands-on filmmaking education that bridges theoretical understanding with professional production experience.
