Dr. Damian Fasolo is a Lecturer in Screen Production at Murdoch University's School of Media and Communication (within the College of Law, Arts and Social Sciences). He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (2013–2020) from Edith Cowan University, focusing on independent low-budget filmmaking. His research explores democratisation of cinema, constraint-based practices, and intersections between cinematic aesthetics and video journalism.
His professional career blends academia and industry, with acclaimed work as a cinematographer and filmmaker. Notable projects include the critically acclaimed short film The Road Not Taken (screened globally) and the low-budget feature Broken, which won a prestigious Australian Cinematographers Award. He has collaborated with major institutions like BBC News (London) and Australian broadcasters, producing award-winning documentaries and TV content.
Fasolo’s research interests span independent cinema, new wave techniques, and the evolution of video journalism. His work frequently addresses themes of authenticity in adolescent representation, the impact of budget constraints on creativity, and the democratization of filmmaking technology.
