معرفی
John Bamberg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Western Australia (UWA). His research focuses on finite geometry, group theory, and algebraic combinatorics. He has held significant roles including Graduate Research Coordinator, Research Integrity Advisor, and editorial positions for journals like Combinatorial Theory and Advances in Geometry. Bamberg completed his PhD at UWA under Cheryl Praeger and Tim Penttila, followed by postdoctoral positions at UWA and Ghent University. He was an Australian Research Council Future Fellow from 2012–2016.
His research spans permutation groups, finite geometries, and combinatorial configurations. Notable contributions include studies on polar spaces, symplectic groups, and geometric configurations in Johnson graphs. His work frequently intersects group actions, automorphism groups, and incidence structures.
Bamberg has published over 75 peer-reviewed articles, with recent focus on topics like tactical decompositions, 2-closed groups, and Ramsey numbers. He has secured six major grants, including ARC-funded projects on permutation groups and Cayley graphs. His awards include the Gavin Brown Prize (2020), Hall Medal (2017), and Kirkman Medal (2006).
Bamberg actively engages in academic leadership, serving as Vice-President of the Combinatorial Mathematics Society of Australasia and managing editor for multiple journals. His research also emphasizes applications of algebraic methods to geometric problems and combinatorial designs.
