Gordon Royle

Gordon Royle is a Professor at the University of Western Australia (UWA), affiliated with the School of Physics, Maths and Computing and the Mathematics and Statistics department. He holds a BA from Oxford and a PhD from UWA. His research focuses on combinatorial algorithms, discrete mathematics, finite geometry, graph theory, and matroid theory.

He has received the Gavin Brown Prize (2020) for outstanding mathematical research. His work spans theoretical contributions and practical applications, including collaborations in finite geometry, permutation groups, and algebraic structures. Notable grants include projects on permutation groups, chromatic roots of graphs, and structural studies in graphs/matroids.

Royle has contributed datasets such as classifications of matroids and transitive groups, and his research outputs include over 70 peer-reviewed articles. He has supervised 2 graduate students and leads interdisciplinary projects, including the synchronisation hierarchy of permutation groups.
