John Adam Gerlach

John Adam Gerlach is the Institute/Center Director and Program Director for the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program at Michigan State University. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in immunohematology, immunodiagnostics, molecular diagnostics, and biomedical laboratory operations, with instruction delivered both in-person and online.

Dr. Gerlach’s research focuses on immunogenetics and transplantation immunology, with applications to molecular diagnostics and understanding disease associations. His work bridges clinical laboratory sciences and pathology, emphasizing immunological and molecular methodologies.

He serves as laboratory director for the Tissue Typing and Olin Student Health Center laboratories on campus. Dr. Gerlach has held leadership roles in the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, including serving as its President (2013–2014) and a member of its Accreditation Review Board.
