John A. Graves, Ph.D., is a Professor of Health Policy and Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His work integrates economic, statistical, and decision analytic methodologies to evaluate the impact of policy changes on healthcare access, spending, and patient outcomes. He has contributed to major reforms including the 2006 Massachusetts health reform and the 2010 Affordable Care Act.
- Education: Ph.D. in Health Policy from Harvard University (2011), B.A. in Economics and English Literature from Sewanee: The University of the South (2003).
Dr. Graves leads research projects on health insurance design, healthcare spending returns, and genomic testing applications in diverse populations. He co-directs the Vanderbilt Health Valuation Lab, a cross-institutional initiative involving Owen Graduate School of Management and Project Healthcare Initiative.
His teaching spans econometrics and statistics for graduate students, policy and health economics for medical students, and global workshops on cost-effectiveness modeling. Scientific recognition includes fellowships from the National Institute for Healthcare Management, National Bureau of Economic Research, and American Statistical Association.
