Johannes Sutter serves as Assistant Professor in the Climate and Environmental Physics department at the University of Bern, where he leads the Ice Sheet Dynamics research group investigating Antarctic Ice Sheet responses to climate transitions and sea level variations.
His research focuses on reducing uncertainties in ice sheet model projections by developing novel calibration methodologies using geophysical observations of internal ice layering. Key projects include CHARIBDIS (Charting Antarctic Ice Sheet evolution via internal stratigraphy) and pleistoCEP2 (Pleistocene Earth System Evolution 2), with international collaborations in ClimTip, Beyond EPICA Oldest Ice, and AntArchitecture initiatives.
Professor Sutter's team comprises PostDocs Dr. Julien Bodart and Dr. Vjeran Visnjevic, and PhD students Antoine Hermant and Emma Spezia, advancing research on glacial-interglacial cycle dynamics and future climate scenario modeling.
