Johannes Siegrist

Johannes Siegrist is a Professor of Medical Sociology at the Faculty of Medicine, Heinrich Heine-University Duesseldorf, Germany, since 1992. He previously held the same academic position at the University of Marburg (1973-1992) and has served as Director of the Postgraduate Training Program on Public Health at Duesseldorf. His career includes visiting professorships at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Vienna (1977-1979) and Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health (1991).

He has held significant leadership roles including President of the International Society of Behavioural Medicine (1996-1998) and the European Society of Health and Medical Sociology (1990-1992). He directed the European Science Foundation's program on Social Variations in Health Expectancy in Europe (1999-2003) and has chaired the "Behavioural Sciences" section of Academia Europaea since 2004.
