Johannes Halbe

Dr. Johannes Halbe serves as Interim Professor for Resource Management and leads the Transformative Research Group at the Institute of Environmental Systems Research, University of Osnabrück. His academic work bridges engineering, economics, and environmental systems analysis to address complex sustainability challenges through integrated modeling approaches.

Dr. Halbe's research focuses on developing and applying participatory modeling methods including system dynamics modeling, fuzzy cognitive mapping, and causal loop diagrams to analyze cross-scale food, energy, and water supply systems. He specializes in co-designing transformation processes with stakeholders from industry, science, and civil society, with particular emphasis on upscaling innovations through real-world laboratories and innovation platforms. His methodological framework for initiating transition governance processes has established him as a leader in sustainability transitions research.
