Johannes Geyer is Deputy Head of the Public Economics Department at DIW Berlin, a leading economic research institute. He holds a PhD in Economics from Freie Universität Berlin (2012) through the DIW Graduate Center. His roles include serving as a visiting professor at Humboldt-Universität Berlin (2012-2016) and Ombudsman for Good Scientific Practice (2014-2017). His research focuses on social protection systems, demographic change, microsimulation modeling, and pension policy, often using advanced empirical methods. He is affiliated with the Health Econometrics and Data Group (HEDG) and is a Netspar Fellow.
Key research interests include the labor market impacts of pension reforms, long-term care policy, and the distributional effects of social security measures. He has advised on policy reforms such as the expansion of long-term care insurance and the implications of aging populations on public finances. His recent work addresses challenges like the decline of private pension contracts (Riester) and tax incentives for post-retirement work ('Aktiv-Rente').
