Johannes Feist is an Associate Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), affiliated with the Departamento de Física Teórica de la Materia Condensada and the Condensed Matter Physics Center (IFIMAC). His research focuses on theoretical nanophotonics, quantum optics, and polaritonic chemistry, particularly exploring strong light-matter coupling effects. He leads the MMUSCLES ERC project investigating molecular structure modifications under confined light fields.
Feist earned his PhD from Vienna University of Technology (2009), followed by postdoctoral positions at Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (2009–2012) and UAM (2012–2017). He held a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship (2018–2022) before becoming a faculty member. His work bridges quantum theory and nanoscale photonics, addressing applications in energy transfer, quantum control, and chemical reactivity.
Key research themes include cavity-QED effects in molecular systems, ultrafast dynamics, and quantum many-body phenomena. He has pioneered studies on polaritonic chemistry and developed theoretical frameworks for non-Markovian dynamics in organic polaritons.
Feist’s awards include the IUPAP Young Scientist Prize (2017) and ITAMP Fellowship. His group collaborates with institutions like IFIMAC and Harvard, and his ERC project emphasizes translational applications of quantum optics principles in material science.
