Johannes Becker

Johannes Becker is a Research Fellow at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) Berlin (2023–2026) and President of the Research Committee 38 'Biography and Society' at the International Sociological Association (2023–2027). His work focuses on migration sociology, biographical research, and figurational sociology, particularly within the Middle East. Becker holds a habilitation (2024) and PhD (2017) in Social Sciences from the University of Göttingen, along with an MA in Anthropology of Media from SOAS, London (2009).

• Research projects include DFG-funded studies on Assyrian/Aramean migrant communities in Germany and Jordan.
• Key publications address urban sociology, refugee migration, and biographical methodologies.

Becker has received the Thomas A. Herz Award (2020) and DAVO dissertation award (2017). He teaches sociology at institutions like Leipzig University and coordinates international research networks.
