Johannes Barth

Prof. Johannes Barth is a full professor leading the Molecular Nanosciences & Chemical Physics of Surfaces group at Technical University of Munich (TUM School of Natural Sciences). He specializes in atomic-scale control of molecular systems and functional nanostructures.

• PhD in Physical Chemistry (1992) from Max Planck Society's Fritz-Haber-Institut Berlin
• IBM Postdoctoral Fellow (USA), EPFL Lausanne researcher (1999 Habilitation), Canada Research Chair at University of British Columbia (2004-2012)

Research focuses on designing functional nanomaterials through surface chemistry, with emphasis on supramolecular architectures and their applications in nanoelectronics. Key achievements include on-surface synthesis of carbon scaffolds and molecular patterning techniques.

Publications emphasize interface phenomena and nanostructure engineering, with recent work exploring carbon-based nanomaterials and porphyrin systems. Awards include ERC Advanced Grant (2009) and Prix Latsis Universitaire (2001).
