Dr. Johanne Devlin Trew is a Lecturer in the School of Criminology, Politics & Social Policy at Ulster University, part of the School of Applied Social and Policy Sciences. She holds academic affiliations with the Institute for Research in Social Sciences. Her research focuses on migration/diaspora studies, memory studies, and Canadian/Québec history, with a commitment to narrative methodologies and digital humanities. She has led AHRC-funded projects, including Documenting Ireland, and serves on the AHRC Peer Review College (2017–2021).
Education: PhD (University of Limerick), MA (McGill University), MLIS (University of Western Ontario), B.Mus. (University of Ottawa), PG CHEP (Ulster University).
Research interests include migration narratives, historical memory, and transnational identities. She has published monographs on Northern Ireland migration and co-edited works on the Irish diaspora. Her digital humanities projects integrate technology with social science research.
Community engagement includes leadership in the Living Legacies 1914–18 Engagement Centre (WWI commemorations) and the Coiste na nLarchimi Heritage Lottery project. She has secured over £1 million in AHRC grants and advocates for technology-driven research applications.
