Johanna Powell serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) Program at Saint Martin's University within the College of Education and Counseling.
Her academic credentials include:
- Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Trevecca Nazarene University
- Master of Marriage and Family Therapy
- B.A. in Management and Human Relations
Dr. Powell's research and clinical expertise focus on supervision, attachment theory, shame and perfectionism. She utilizes a systemic framework and attachment lens in therapeutic practice, complemented by personality theory (Enneagram and MBTI) to enhance self-awareness and relational growth. Her educational philosophy emphasizes liberation, advocacy, and ethical professional development for counselors, ensuring research is effectively contextualized in practice.
As program chair, she is deeply committed to mentoring students and fostering their development as socially conscious mental health professionals.
