Johanna “Joey” Murphy is a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Pittsburgh’s Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. She holds an M.F.A. in Non-Fiction Writing and a B.A. in Philosophy. Her advocacy work focuses on autism awareness, particularly for older women on the autism spectrum, as Director of Inclusion Programming at Evolve Coaching. She collaborates with the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence and NEXT for Autism.

Her research bridges creative writing pedagogy and neurodiversity advocacy, emphasizing cultural humility in healthcare and educational systems. She co-authored a chapter on inclusive practices for Springer’s upcoming textbook. Her 2019 article on late-life autism diagnosis earned a SPJ Spotlight Award.
As an educator, she teaches Composition, Creative Writing, and courses tailored for engineering students. Beyond academia, she works to improve support systems for autistic college students and workforce candidates through Evolve Coaching’s master’s-level programs.
