Johanna Lindberg is a Senior Lecturer at Luleå University of Technology in the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering, specializing in Information Systems. Her research focuses on digital transformation in rural contexts, with particular emphasis on how digital services can enhance the ability to live and work in rural areas.
Dr. Lindberg's research interests include:
- Digital transformation in rural societies
- Living Labs methodology adapted for rural contexts (Rural Living Labs)
- Inclusive digital services development
- Critical systems thinking in digital transformation
- Policy implications for rural digital development
- Rural digital ecosystem conceptualization
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on understanding how rural communities can drive digital transformation through collaborative methods. She has developed and adapted Living Labs approaches specifically for rural contexts to understand and address community needs, recognizing that digital transformation in rural areas extends beyond technology uptake to include community empowerment and social role reshaping.
Dr. Lindberg has received funding from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (DigiBy project) and The Kamprad Family Foundation to support her research in rural digital transformation. Her work examines how national digital policies often clash with rural community needs due to their urban-centric, one-size-fits-all approaches.
With over 20 years of experience in regional and local development across various fields including environment, services, gender equality, and digitalisation prior to her academic career, Dr. Lindberg brings practical experience to her research and teaching.
