Johanna Gostner serves as Associate Professor of Biochemical Toxicology at the Medical University of Innsbruck's Institute of Medical Biochemistry, leading the Biochemical Immunotoxicology research group focused on environmental impacts on human metabolism and immune function.
Her academic journey includes doctoral research at the Tyrolean Cancer Research Institute, postdoctoral work at both the Medical University of Innsbruck's Institute of Medical Biochemistry and Imperial College London, culminating in her 2019 habilitation in biochemistry.
Her research spans Immunometabolism, Immunotoxicology, and the Exposome, with specialized expertise in neopterin and tryptophan pathways. Methodologically, she developed a volatile substance exposure platform for cell cultures and co-created the multiomics analysis tool DoseRider with Hubert Hackl.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- FWF Hertha Firnberg Fellowship (2014) for women's scientific advancement
- Blair–Curtius–Pfleiderer–Wachter Prize for immune activation research
- ISTRY Young Investigator Award for immunometabolism contributions
She directs research utilizing cell models and epidemiological data to investigate chemical exposure effects on immune metabolism across various diseases, with grant support including the FWF Hertha Firnberg Fellowship.
Her laboratory specializes in environmental toxicology mechanisms through integrated multiomics approaches and exposure platform development.
