Johanna Gosse

Dr. Johanna Gosse is a Lecturer in Lens and Time-Based Art Histories at The Courtauld Institute of Art (2023–present). She specializes in modern/contemporary art with a focus on experimental film, media studies, and queer art. During 2023–2024, she holds a Terra Foundation Visiting Professorship at the University of Oxford’s Department of History of Art. Her research bridges art history, film/media studies, and visual studies, with notable projects including a book on queer artist Ray Johnson (Creative Capital grantee) and a study on place and American art during the Vietnam War era.

Publications include Nervous Systems: Art, Systems, and Politics since the 1960s (2022, co-edited), essays in Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, Camera Obscura, and exhibition catalogues for major institutions like the Reina Sofia and MoMA. She co-leads the Contemporary Art & the Moving Image MA program with King’s College London and previously served as Executive Editor of Media-N: Journal of the New Media Caucus (2018–2023).
