Professor Johanna Bockman is a Full-time Tenure-line faculty member at George Mason University, specializing in globalization studies, economic sociology, and urban studies. Her research focuses on neoliberalism's origins, gentrification dynamics in Washington, DC, and transnational economic ideas. She has written extensively on topics such as socialist globalization, structural adjustment policies, and the interplay between art and urban development.
Her current projects include a book on gentrification in DC's Ward 6 and an exploration of the 1980s debt crisis from debtor-creditor perspectives. Bockman teaches courses on globalization, research methods, and urban studies, including 'Globalization and Contemporary Social Life' and 'Cities in a Global Society.' She supervises graduate students in sociology and related fields.
Her work appears in journals like International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, History of Political Economy, and Comparative Studies in Society and History. She is affiliated with the Next Constitutions Research Lab and the Center for Social Science Research, contributing to initiatives like the 'Democratizing NOVA' project.
