Professor Johan Malmström is a principal investigator at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University, leading the Infection Medicine Proteomics group. He serves as node manager for the Lund University node in the Swedish Infrastructure for Biological Mass Spectrometry (BioMS) and is a key PI in the SEBRA Sepsis and Bacterial Resistance Alliance.
- PhD in Cellular and Molecular Proteomics (2003)
- Postdoctoral training in the USA and Switzerland
- Co-founder of Biognosys AG (2010)
His research focuses on proteomics and mass spectrometry to study host-pathogen interactions, sepsis mechanisms, and antibody dynamics. Recent work explores proteomic changes post-cardiac arrest and Bartonella exposure.
Key trends in his publications include quaternary protein structure determination, targeted temperature management, and computational methods in immunity. Articles span journals like Nature Communications and Parasites & Vectors.
Scientific Awards:
- Berzelius Medal (2016)
- Svenska Prize from Eric K. Fernströms Stiftelse (2019)
He supervises projects funded by the Swedish Research Council and Vinnova, including AI integration in sepsis diagnostics and computational immunity research.
