Johan Jönsson is a researcher at Stockholm University, affiliated with the Doctoral School in the History of Political Thought and the Department of Culture and Aesthetics. He holds a master’s degree in Critical Studies and teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses like The traditions of critical thinking and Foucault - historical and critical perspectives.
His research project critically examines the evolution of death-related practices in 20th/21st-century Sweden, focusing on biopolitics, euthanasia, and the governance of health via organ transplantation policies. The work engages with Agamben’s theories, genealogical methods, and interdisciplinary analysis of governmental records to uncover intersections between law, medicine, and population control.
Publications include studies on biopolitical exceptions and death-declaring practices. His broader research interests span Critical Theory, Medical Ethics, and Economic Rationality, with a focus on how institutions manage life/death boundaries to optimize societal outcomes.
