Dr. Johan Granberg is an Associate Professor of Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar (VCUQatar). He holds a Master of Architecture from Chalmers School of Architecture and is completing a PhD at RMIT Melbourne. His roles combine academia with architectural practice through his firm J. Granberg Design, established in 2001.

His research focuses on cultural acts of making, design education, and material technologies. He explores how making processes shape societal structures and curricula, often through interdisciplinary lenses like art/science and tradition/innovation.
Key awards include the Rome Prize (2006-07) and Hyde Chair of Excellence (2005-06). He has curated major exhibitions like 'Transformation' (Finland-Sweden, 2005) and led international conferences such as 'On-Bamboo 08' in Papua New Guinea.
Teaching spans VCUQatar, RMIT, University of Nebraska, and others. Grants include Qatar National Research Priority Grant (2012) and funding for design education studies in PNG.
